As we celebrate Memorial Day weekend, I can’t say thank you enough to those that have served our great country. I try not to make my writing personal, but I can’t pass up the opportunity to honor my late grandfather, a United States Army Veteran. He served in the South Pacific Theater during WWII as a Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, and the Victory Medal. To this day, he continues to be one of the greatest men I have ever known.

Quote of the Week: |
|
“the best moments usually occur when a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile.”
Today’s Quote of the Week comes from a book I finished last fall called “Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment” by Tal Ben-Shahar. I can’t recommend this book enough. The principles taught in this book are the basis for the most popular course at Harvard University. Dr. Ben-Shahar’s philosophy, in a nutshell, is: “When you learn how to live for today and for tomorrow at the same time, you learn how to balance your immediate personal needs with long-term goals and enjoy life as you never have before.” It is an easy read and hard to put down.

Fit Tip of the Week by Dr. Anjelica Yoder, DPT: |

What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?
Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy is a specialty focusing on the area from the diaphragm to the pelvis.
The pelvic floor muscles (PFM) are located at the base of your pelvis, spreading across your two sit bones and front to back from your pubic bone and your tailbone.
A good visual would be to compare your PFM to a trampoline or a hammock. Just as a trampoline supports your body, especially with jumping, so does your PFM support your pelvic organs and a growing baby during pregnancy.
Other functions include:
- Ability to control and release urine, feces, and gas
- Aide in sexual function
- Assists the diaphragm and core with breathing
