WellFit Update: |
|
This past week we officially began scheduling Performance Physical Therapy sessions with Dr. Brent and Dr. Anjelica, as well as booking swim safety or instruction in private and partner sessions.
Our Performance Physical Therapy is a pay-as-go service that helps Orthopedic Musculoskeletal Conditions such as tennis elbow, arthritis, tendonitis, sciatica, sprains, strains, and more. Also, Dr. Anjelica specialized in Pelvic Health. Pelvic health can be categorized into 3 areas: Pelvic Floor (urinary leakage, tailbone pain, menstrual discomfort, painful sex), Pregnancy (low back pain, core strengthening, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary leakage/frequency, and sacroiliac joint pain), and Postpartum (Pubic bone pain, low back pain, cesarean scar management, return to sex and exercise, core strengthening). |

Fit Tip of the Week: |

I recently took a food sensitivity test, and the results were fascinating! I consistently tell people that so-called "diet" foods are not necessarily diet foods for EVERYONE. Also, a food sensitivity does not mean an allergy. I will let you guess what my highest-rated sensitivity food is…
Hint: it's a popular breakfast diet food.
Think you have it?

What I am Reading: |
|
"Every Day Is a Gift: A Memoir" by Tammy Duckworth. I just opened this book as it was kindly gifted to me recently by a wonderful member here at The Oaks Club. I am excited to dig in! Below is a small glimpse into the story:
Learn the incredible story of Illinois senator and Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth and see what inspired her to follow the path that made her who she is today.
In Every Day Is a Gift, Tammy Duckworth takes readers through the amazing—and amazingly true—stories from her incomparable life. In November of 2004, an Iraqi RPG blew through the cockpit of Tammy Duckworth's U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter. The explosion, which destroyed her legs and mangled her right arm, was a turning point in her life. But as Duckworth shows in Every Day Is a Gift, that moment was just one in a lifetime of extraordinary turns. |

Lats! Why should you have a lat test performed here in the WellFit Center? Common swing faults by lack of lat mobility are: loss of posture, reverse spine angle, and over-the-top. Tightness in the lat can lead to loss of posture anytime the arms are elevated, such as in your backswing. |

Did You Know? |

Since many of you are from the northeast and midwest, you may be familiar with Youngstown State University. My cousin is the head of football strength and conditioning for the Penguins. He also has a business where he and his staff trains athletes of all ages, including current/old NFL players (James Harrison was a notable client) and NFL hopefuls in his NFL combine preparation program. I wanted to give him a shout-out as I am extremely proud of him, and he is just beginning to scratch the surface of his success. I also wanted to make it public that he put 8 balls in the water on the first 9 holes on The Eagle last Friday….the Eagle can dominate all of us! |

We want to wish a big Happy Birthday to our WellFit All-Star Wilma McCarthy!
She is still going strong at 94, which she turned this week! This “nonagenarian” dynamo has been an active member of WellFit since the beginning. She still plays 9 holes of golf regularly, can balance on one foot and hold a 45-second plank, and rarely, if ever, takes the elevator.
We can all agree with her trainer Lynne that “She’s an inspiration to all!”.
Way to go, Wilma!!!
